Lo que es particularmente caracter\u00edstico es que quienes est\u00e1n involucrados en un conflicto intentan encontrar sus propias soluciones bajo su propia responsabilidad. Cuentan con el apoyo de un tercero independiente (el mediador) que, a diferencia de un juez, no tiene autoridad para tomar decisiones. Lo que caracteriza al mediador es su capacidad para llevar a cabo negociaciones estructuradas, con las que gu\u00eda a las partes para que encuentren acuerdos generalmente r\u00e1pidos y flexibles, a veces incluso m\u00e1s rentables, de los que todos los involucrados se benefician.
